Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's New General Catalogue, a catalogue of the world's ants.

  • foetida. Formica foetida De Geer, 1773: 611, pl. 31, figs. 21, 22 (q.) SURINAM. [Junior primary homonym of foetida Linnaeus, 1758: 582, above.] Replacement name: foetens Olivier, 1792: 503.
  • foetens. Formica foetens Olivier, 1792: 503. Replacement name for foetida De Geer, 1773: 611. [Junior primary homonym of foetida Linnaeus, 1758: 582.] Unidentifiable to genus; incertae sedis in Formica: Bolton, 1995b: 195.
