AntWiki: The Ants --- Online

Latitude and longitude can be added as regular text anywhere you can add text to a page. There are also two handy templates you can use that will show coordinates as a link, allowing the coordinates to be shown on a map.

The first method creates its own boxed presentation of Geolocation. There are a few different coordinate formats that can be used for input but the result is always displayed in degrees, minutes and seconds. The second method simply displays the coordinates as a link (they remain "inline" as opposed to creating a Geolocation box that is set off from the rest of the text). This method allows for a wider range of input formats and shows the coordinates in the same format, and precision, as they were input.

Method One - Template:Location

This method is typically used for including Geolocation information with an uploaded image. The Location template is used to enter and format information. Entering degrees + minutes + seconds + hemisphere like this:

{{Location|42|24|4.83|N|71|11|26.13|W}}

produces the following on the page:

Location

42° 24' 4.83" N, 71° 11' 26.13" W

Decimal degrees can also be used for input like this:

{{Location dec|34.02427|-116.15830}}

but the location is always returned in degrees, minutes and seconds:

Location

34° 1' 27.37" N, 116° 9' 29.88" W

Method Two - Template:Inline coordinates

Latitude and longitude can also be shown without the box created by the Location template. The coordinates can be input in a wide range of formats and the results shown on the page will always be shown in a similar format and with the precision as they were entered.

{{Inline coordinates|43.65|-79.38}} produces: 43°39′N 79°23′W / 43.65°N 79.38°W / 43.65; -79.38

{{Inline coordinates|43.6500|-79.3800}} produces: 43°39′00″N 79°22′48″W / 43.6500°N 79.3800°W / 43.6500; -79.3800

{{Inline coordinates|43.651234|N|79.383333|W}} produces: 43°39′04″N 79°23′00″W / 43.651234°N 79.383333°W / 43.651234; -79.383333

{{Inline coordinates|43|29|4.5|N|79|23|0.5|W}} produces: 43°29′4.5″N 79°23′0.5″W / 43.484583°N 79.383472°W / 43.484583; -79.383472
