Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

  • longiceps. Lasius (Chthonolasius) jensi subsp. longiceps Seifert, 1988: 158, figs. 12, 22, 31 (w.q.) RUSSIA.
    • Raised to species: Zryanin & Zryanina, 2007: 235.

Taxonomic Notes

Originally described as an eastern subspecies of Lasius jensi. Based on material available when describing this form, the western-most specimens of L. longiceps were some 1000km east of the closest L. jensi material. However, Zryanin & Zryanina (2007) found these two forms to be parapatric in the Nizhny Novgorod region and found consistent differences in allometry and chaetotaxy, suggesting two separate species are involved.
