Nothing is known about the biology of Strumigenys furfara.

Identification

Bolton (2000) - A member of the Strumigenys yaleopleura-group. S. furfara differs from Strumigenys dantalion as the former has 3 flagellate hairs on the dorsolateral margin of the head and the pronotum has a second pair of flagellate hairs in addition to the humeral pair. In dantalion only the apicoscrobal flagellate hair occurs on the dorsolateral margin of the head and flagellate hairs on the pronotum are restricted to the humeri. For separation from Strumigenys yaleopleura, see there.

Dorsolateral margin of head with a laterally projecting flagellate hair just behind level of eye and another in apicoscrobal position; a third is present posterior to this on dorsolateral margin of occipital lobe but this hair is directed more vertically than laterally. Pronotal dorsum with a pair of flagellate hairs in addition to humeral pair. Katepisternum smooth but metapleuron and side of propodeum with superficial shagreenate sculpture, not wholly smooth. Basitarsus of hind leg with 2 fine erect flagellate hairs on its dorsal (outer) surface; dorsal (outer) surface of hind tibia without flagellate hairs; this pilosity also present on middle leg. Propodeal declivity with an indistinct narrow lamella.
