Nothing is known about the biology of Strumigenys ochosa.

Identification

Bolton (2000) - The only member of the Strumigenys ochosa-group. Sumatran specimens have slightly different sculpture than Sabah material. The former has denser and more sharply defined punctulae on the dorsum of the head than the latter, but the pronotal dorsum is more sharply and densely punctulate in the latter than in the former.

Description

Worker

Holotype. TL 3.8, HL 1.11, HW 1.06, CI 95, ML 0.36, MI 32, SL 0.55, SI 52, PW 0.57, AL 1.12. Gland bulla conspicuous on dorsum of hind femur, long, ca 0.28 X maximum femur length. With petiole in profile lateral spongiform lobe extends more than half the length of the side of the node; height of anterior face of node at least equal to length of dorsum. Disc of postpetiole completely surrounded by spongiform tissue. First gastral tergite with a transverse row of erect hairs near base; no others occur until about the midlength of the sclerite. Basigastral costulae no longer than disc of postpetiole.

Paratypes. TL 3.6-3.8, HL 1.06-1.12, HW 1.00-1.07, CI 94-98, ML 0.34-0.36, MI 31-34, SL 0.52-0.55, SI 49-52, PW 0.54-0.58, AL 1.04-1.12 (7 measured).

Type Material

Holotype worker, Malaysia: Sabah, Crocker Ra., 19.v.1987, 1300 m., no. 31a (Burckhardt & Lobl) (Musee d'Histoire Naturelle Genève). Paratypes. 20 workers with same data as holotype; 12 workers, Sabah, Crocker Range N. P., KK-Tambunan km. 60, 17.v.1987, 1270 m., no. 29a (Burckhardt & Lobl) (MHNG, The Natural History Museum, Museum of Comparative Zoology, California Academy of Sciences).
