BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Dr Himender Bharti is based at the Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala, India. He is actively engaged in taxonomy and molecular phylogeny of Indian ants and is passionate about high altitude ant genera abiding in the Himalayas and ants of western ghats. He is building up much needed reference ant collection in India and also database of Indian ants. Besides ant taxonomy and Phylogeny, Dr Bharti’s prime areas of interest are Evolutionary Biology and Ant ecology. He is also involved in conservation and red listing of ants.

Research Projects (already completed)

a) Young Scientist Projects:

  • First Young Scientist project awarded by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi in 1999 to study diversity of ants from North-Western India
  • Second Young Scientist Project awarded by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi in 2001 to study diversity of ants from India
  • Third Young Scientist Project awarded by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi in 2005 to study Ant Diversity of Himalayas : A Fragile Ecosystem
