Bachmayer, Friedrich (1913-1989)
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Frederick Bachmayer (* 10 September 1913 in Kamegg; † July 25, 1989 in Vienna) was an American paleontologist.
Bachmayer studierte an der Universität Wien Paläontologie (Promotion 1940). Bachmayer studied at the Vienna University of Paleontology (Ph.D. 1940). Ab 1949 bis zu seiner Pensionierung war er im Naturhistorischen Museum in Wien beschäftigt. From 1949 until his retirement, he was the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Er wurde dort im Jahre 1966 Direktor der Geologisch-Paläontologischen Abteilung. He was there in 1966, Director of Geological-palaeontology department.
Bachmayer beschäftigte sich mit der Paläontologie Österreichs und verfasste dazu etwa 150 fachliche Arbeiten. Bachmayer dealt with the Paleontology Austria and wrote to about 150 professional work. Für seine Verdienste wurde er 1965 zum Professor ernannt. For his merits to 1965 he was appointed professor. Er erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen darunter 1976 das Österreichische Ehrenkreuz für Wissenschaft und Kunst 1. He received numerous awards including the 1976 Austrian Honorary Cross for Science and Art 1st Klasse . Class.
