Specimen Labels

Camponotus bertolonii has been found in a variety of habitats such as Fynbos, Renosterveld, and Strandveld. There are also two records from houses. Nests are typically, but not exclusively, in dead wood, e.g., downed branches, a stump, under bark, and a dead branch in a living tree. There are also records of a soil nest under a living branch growing at ground level and a colony inhabiting a Crematogaster carton nest (sans Crematogaster) on the ground. Other specimens have been collected from the ground. These include litter samples, pitfall traps, and under kelp on an Atlantic Ocean beach.
