Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

  • rubra. Myrmecocystus albicans r. ruber Forel, 1903c: 268 (w.) ALGERIA. Santschi, 1929b: 39 (q.m.). Combination in Cataglyphis: Emery, 1912f: 99. Raised to species: Collingwood, 1985: 291; Wehner, 1986: 109.

Taxonomic Notes

Pashaei Rad et al. (2018) note that the type ruber is at CASENT0249887. The eastern populations seem to be lighter, agilis (an unavailable, infrasubspecific name) from Tunisia being at CASENT0912224.
