This taxon is not in use as it is currently considered to be a junior synonym of Monomorium niloticum.

Nomenclature

The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

  • matame. Monomorium matame Collingwood & Agosti, 1996: 350, fig. 22 (w.) OMAN, SAUDI ARABIA, YEMEN.
    • Type-material: holotype worker, paratype workers (number not stated).
    • Type-locality: holotype Oman: Wadi Matam, 1.ii.1986 (M.D. Gallagher); paratypes: workers with same data, workers Saudi Arabia: Nuayriyah, 20.v.1980 (W. Büttiker), workers Yemen: Sana’a, ii.1991 (A. van Harten).
    • Type-depository: WMLC (holotype) (possibly also in NHMB if Büttiker material was returned, possibly in OMHN if Gallagher material has been retained there).
    • Status as species: Borowiec, L. 2014: 121.
    • Junior synonym of niloticum: Sharaf, Mohamed, Boudinot, et al. 2021: 37.
