The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's New General Catalogue, a catalogue of the world's ants.

  • scutulata. Polyrhachis scutulatus Smith, F. 1859a: 140 (w.) INDONESIA (Aru I.). Combination in P. (Chariomyrma): Emery, 1925b: 188.

The following notes on F. Smith type specimens have been provided by Barry Bolton (details):

Polyrhachis scutulatus

Holotype worker in Oxford University Museum of Natural History. Labelled “Aru 59” (= Aru I., New Guinea) and with a Donisthorpe type-label. A second specimen from Aru is present, marked “Aru 56,” but the style of writing is different from the holotype’s label and the “56” appears to have been added separately, as it is in a different colour of ink. Writing on the holotype label is homogeneous.
