Subspecies

The status of most European species of the genus Solenopsis requires extensive revision. Galkowski et al. (2010) redescribed Solenopsis fugax and suggested that four distinct species groups occur in Europe and the Mediterranean region. Samples examined by Borowiec & Salata (2021) and Borowiec et al. (2022) from Greece, characterized by short and sparse hairs on the mesosoma and small gynes, belong to the Solenopsis lusitanica group as proposed by Galkowski et al. (2010).
