The following information is derived from Barry Bolton's Online Catalogue of the Ants of the World.

  • gemella. Strumigenys gemella Kempf, 1975a: 416, fig. 5 (w.) COLOMBIA. Combination in Pyramica: Bolton, 1999: 1673; in Strumigenys: Baroni Urbani & De Andrade, 2007: 120. See also: Bolton, 2000: 185.

Description

Worker

Bolton (2000) - TL 2.6-2.8, HL 0.62-0.64, HW 0.47-0.49, CI 76-78, ML 0.37-0.39, MI 59-61, SL 0.35-0.37, AL 0.69-0.73 (measurements from Kempf, 1975). Characters of gundlachi complex; very closely related to Strumigenys laevipleura and matching the description of that species except as follows.

1 Inner margin of mandible proximal of basal most denticle distinctly sinuous.

2 Proximal (basal most) preapical denticle much larger than the two more distally located denticles.

3 Short but distinct basigastral costulae present.

4 First gastral tergite with a narrow anterior spongiform collar.

5 First gastral stemite with a weak but distinct spongiform pad anteriorly.

Type Material
