Identification

Bolton (2000) – A member of the godeffroyi complex in the Strumigenys godeffroyi-group. See notes under Strumigenys nanzanensis.

Description

Worker

Holotype. TL 1.9, HL 0.50, HW 0.36, CI 72, ML 0.21, MI 42, SL 0.27, SI 75, PW 0.22, AL 0.52. Characters of godeffroyi-complex. Cephalic dorsum with pair of erect hairs closest to midline on occipital margin fine, basal portion of hair erect and apical third or more abruptly angled or hooked anteriorly, or looped. Ground-pilosity on pronotal dorsum sparse, not forming a dense pelt. Dorsum of pronotum reticulate-punctate and with a pair of erect flagellate hairs in addition to the humeral pair. Pleurae and side of propodeum mostly to entirely smooth, any reticulate-punctate sculpture present is confined to periphery. Propodeal declivity with a broad conspicuous spongiform lamella; propodeal tooth weakly present at apex of lamella and dorsal surface of propodeal tooth in profile not surmounted by a convex crest of spongiform tissue. Disc of postpetiole unsculptured. Basigastral costulae conspicuous but not extending half the length of the tergite.

Paratype. TL 1.8-1.9, HL 0.48-0.51, HW 0.34-0.37, CI 70-73, ML 0.20-0.22, MI 40-44, SL 0.26-0.29, SI 75-81, PW 0.21-0.22, AL 0.50-0.53 (6 measured).

Type Material

Holotype worker, Indonesia: Sulawesi Utara, Dumoga-Bone N. P., 200-400 m., ii.1985, 2m2 sample of litter, lowland forest, BB7 (P.M. Hammond) (The Natural History Museum).

Paratypes. 2 workers with same data as holotype; 1 worker with same data but BB2; 3 workers with same data but BB3; 1 worker with same data but BB4; 3 workers with same data but BB11; 2 workers with same data but BB12; 2 workers with same data but BB 13 (BMNH, Museum of Comparative Zoology, Musee d'Histoire Naturelle Genève).
