Junior synonym of barbarus: Roger, 1863b: 29; Emery & Forel, 1879: 461; Nasonov, 1889: 37. Revived from synonymy as subspecies of barbarus: Emery, 1891b: 12. Revived status as species: Ruzsky, 1905b: 754. Material of the unavailable name semirubra referred here by Arnol'di, 1977b: 1638. Senior synonym of meridionalis: Atanassov & Dlussky, 1992: 121; of caucasicola: Arakelian, 1994: 34. Current subspecies: nominal plus glabrescens.
