Gary Alpert notes: This may be a synonym of Formica impexa since the queens of both species match up closely and the distributions of both species overlap.

Formica dirksi is known only from this single queen and Formica impexa is found in the same general area. I would double check the number of mandibular teeth in the queens to verify if this a good diagnostic character.
